Like my engine, at times I think we need a tune up in our prayer life with Jesus Christ. In John 16:23-24 Jesus talks to the disciples about Prayer and the promises of it. A lot of people has this “name it and claim it mentality” and take this verse out of context. Instead of that whacked out theology, we need to have a better sense of what prayer is about. “Asking of the Father shows a sense of spiritual wants, and a desire of spiritual blessings, with conviction that they are to be had from God only. Asking in Christ’s name, is acknowledging our unworthiness to receive any favours from God, and shows full dependence upon Christ as the Lord our Righteousness.”         ~ Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

Do you have a prayer life? …If you do, what consumes your prayer life? Lord knows I could pray more. I like to keep a mindset of prayer whether I’m on the way up the road, kneeling quietly in my room, working out…where ever. Is asking for spiritual blessings my hearts desire? Or is it just earthly wants that consume my prayers? The reason we pray is Jesus name is because without Him we have no right to ask God of anything because of our sinfulness. But because we have loved Christ the Father Himself loves us! Christ does not plead with the father to love us. He Himself loves us because the Christ and the Father are one. Hallelujah! I hope we take a look at our lives daily for a “tune up.” We need to speak with Jesus daily. What a privilege to speak directly to God the Father…the vail has been torn. Take a look at what you ask. I hope it is not just for earthly blessing, but a desire to know Him deeply, a sensitivity to His Spirit, and a passion to build His Kingdom.
