Get this stuff in your ears and let God’s truth get all up in your grill. Here’s the list:

My Savior Lives

Everlasting God

My Deliverer

You’ll Come

I Will Rise

We also broke out “A Mighty Fortress” written by Martin Luther and also talked about the historical circumstances surrounding the writing of the song. It was written at a time when the Protestant Reformation was taking shape. Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses (complaints) to the door of the church in town, questioning and challenging the practices of the Catholic church.

Placing his complaints on the church door was like putting it up on a popular blog or writing it on your facebook wall for all to see today. As I considered the lyrics of the song in conjunciton with the cirsumstances surrounding it…the song makes sense and comes to life in a new way. The rythm is really different, because the song is really old(written in the 1500′s). But thats a jam when you consider why it was written.

We’re in a series on Baptist History. This year at the end of July Baptists will celebrate 400 years of being a denomination. It’s good to know your roots. It’s also important to know where you are headed. The vision should drive the organization. If the vision doesn’t drive it, the past will. At FBC Emerson:

We exist to glorify God by being personally devoted to
Jesus Christ and encouraging others to practice a similar devotion.

That’s our mission statement. We want to grow a Biblical church for the glory of God. That’s what drives us. What drives your organization/church/place of work? What drives you personally?

Have a great week and I pray you worship God like crazy in whatever you do!

~ Joey

We went little old school to kick things off today with God of Wonders. We had a couple of other familiar songs and two new ones for our church. I introduced “Desert Song” by Brooke Frasier, and “Our God Saves” by Paul Baloche’. I think they sang on them pretty well for two new ones! Sometimes I hear crickets and see blank faces on new songs Heres the list:

God of Wonders

Your Grace is Enough

Our God Saves

Desert Song

The Stand

I was stoked about the amount of instrumentalist we had up on the platform today! Piano, Keyboard and three guitars…good stuff! I pray God continues to bless the worship ministry with gifted people willing to give back to Him with the gift of music. The media people we on the money today too. A great day all around! Now we just have to work on some stage folks!

I so desire for their to be an expectation and excitement about worship in the body of Christ (my local church and the church as a whole). When we stand and sing together, we’re not just singing songs! We’re responding to God and what He is saying and doing in our lives. We are singing about His truth. We proclaim His death, resurrection and that He will come again!

Do you desire to see Jesus reveal himself to you as you worship? Sometimes it’s hard to “feel God.” Even so he commands us to worship. Luke 4:8 says “It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” Its not like God asks us to worship. Its a command. He commands us because He deserves it. We get to. Its a priviledge for us. When we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. James 4:8 Just keep doing that no matter what.

I love it when the energy in the room comes from the congregations desire to worship Jesus. It’s always like “blah” if the bland stops playing or singing and the whole thing just dies because no one is engaged in worship. I have seen where the people had such a desire to worship that when the band stopped, it didn’t even matter beause it wasn’t about the music in the first place. The presence of the Lord was there. People recognized His presence. People were engaging with Jesus in worship. Interacting with Him. Listening to Him. Praising Him. Some were almost laughing. Some crying. Some on their face. Some with hands raised. Others just being still before the Lord. Some voices still singing even without the band playing. It’s always good when people are responding to the Lord!

I hope we continue to grow as worshippers individually and as a body of believers so as we worship or respond to God, we would see Him move among us. Have a great week!
