Seduction Crys out in the Streets
I’m all about connecting folks with a larger picture of how God working in people’s lives. If you haven’t read here lately, see this post about the 31 Day challenge. Then take a few moments to read on and get in on the conversation. God can use learning in community with others to speak to you…and that my friend is where the par tae’ is!
Proverbs 5
I’m all about the second half of it (The Enjoy Marriage section). I have a great wife. She is one of the ways God proves His love for me.
Also, like we read in Prov 1, it’s like ‘seduction’ is “crying out in the streets” at the same time as wisdom. We gotta run from that seduction business! That voice of seduction may seem sweet at the beginning, but ends up tasting like (wormwood) which considering the surrounding implications must taste really nasty (Prov 5:3-4).
If I could be “captain obvious” for a moment, the context of this passage is sexual, but there also many other subtle seductions we call fall prey to if we are not careful. We must embrace sound instruction, and NOT turn away from it!
A way this fleshes out in my life:
I certainly receive instruction from the Bible. God also uses other people in my life. In the context of embracing wisdom and staying away from things that could get me into trouble this has been HUGE. Specifically, my mentor and my accountability partner. My mentor is someone who is further down the road of life than I, and my accountability partner and I are relatively in the same place. Having a mentor and an accountability partner are separate topics, but I feel they connect with this idea of receiving wisdom, being disciplined and staying away from things that can harm us, all up in Proverbs 5. Get up on that!
Who does God use to help lead you in wisdom(mentor)? And walk with you (accountability)?
Ok: to my readers (which could possibly be just my sweet wife and myself)…so I recognize the CRYS in the TITLE (duh Joey)is spelled wrong…woops
It should be “Cries”
Great stuff!
My dad has always been the most reliable mentor in my life. Although when I was younger, I’d be more apt not to listen to his instructions. Now I find myself asking him more questions than ever. Funny how things change. I’ve got a couple of close friends who I rely on for accountability, thankful for people who I can trust in my life!
Thats real. Since coming to Cartersville as a Pastor of Worship, I’ve really began to see the value in having a mentor. I’ve gained a great one in the Pastor at my church, Warner Smith ( http://warnersmith.org ) He’s really sharp. Warner has helped me out a lot in life and ministry (mostly by getting on my case)! Since the fall, I’ve been able to meet with a friend of mine ( @kurtvkessler ) on a regular basis for accountability…which has also been good just to sit down with another brother and say “heres whats going on…” I’m thankful for both of these relational developments!
